WHAT DO I NEED TO HAVE MY QUILT APPRAISED?

Appraisals can only be done for the owner of the quilt.

Any
documentation you have about the quilt:
Fabric, Batting, techniques, .... used
Name of quilt's maker or the quilt's heritage
Any awards the quilt has received
Information about the quiltmaker
WHAT DO I RECEIVE WITH MY APPRAISAL?

A
professionally computer generated appraisal document identifying the
uniqueness of your quilt, including a picture of the quilt

Confidentiality about your quilt appraisal

A
legal document stating the value of the quilt for the purpose stated on the
appraisal form

The
understanding of the value of your quilt
WHAT HAPPENS AT AN APPRAISAL?

The
average appraisal takes 30 minutes.

You
will complete an information sheet prior to the appraisal.

You
may be asked to help position the quilt for optimal viewing by the
appraiser.
HOW ARE QUILTS APPRAISED?

Quilts are measured (block size, features, etc.)

Documentation of workmanship (construction and quilting)

Condition of the quilt at the time of the appraisal

Provenance of the quilt

Date
of completion, maker, quilter (if not the same)

materials were used; pattern, unusual fabrics, threads, techniques,...?
